And already in December, Shirvani Basayev, along with Shamil, stood on the defense of Grozny. Both brothers then managed to break out of the surrounded city and take refuge in the forests. For obvious reasons, the Basaevs were no longer there. Moreover, their traces were lost so much that nothing was known about them for quite some time. In July alone, official reports of the liquidation of Shamil Basayev appeared.

As for the brother of the terrorist - Shirvani Basayev - rumors about his death spread with enviable regularity. It was rumored that Shirvani died back in the year during the capture of Budennovsk. The press even reported that Shamil's brother was buried in his native Vedensky district. And in August, information sources again started talking about Basayev’s brother.

This time he allegedly died during an attack on Dagestan, organized together with Hattab. All these messages turned out to be ordinary gossip. In December, some media again announced the death of Shirvani Basayev, who died of a mortal wound received during the special operation of Russian troops. But no convincing evidence was provided to this event. In a number of publications, the information that Shirvani Basayev, presumably, could be hidden in Turkey flickered in a number of publications.
