His father was a driver, and his mother worked at a local poultry farm. When the future fighter was 12 years old, he, together with the whole family in search of the best share, moved to Belgorod region, having settled in the village of Tomarovka. There, together with his brother Vadim, he began to visit the local judo section with coach Vitaly Bondarenko. Vitya made success in this sport, won at several tournaments and handed over the CCM standard for judo.
