Konstantin Mikhailovich Samokhin, the project is aimed at a comprehensive reconstruction of the history of the illustrious tank connection and specific participants in the events that fought in its ranks. We strive not only to restore the chronology of events, but also to understand the context of decision -making, the motivation of soldiers, as well as the influence of hostilities on the fate of people.

For this, an interdisciplinary approach to the study of a particular combat unit and its soldiers is used. Operational reports, combat reports, personal files, award documents and other materials are being studied to restore the picture of events. Field work: no less important component of the project is field research conducted directly in the battles. This allows us to visualize events, study the landscape, reconstruct the tactics and strategy of battles, as well as detect artifacts that can tell new details about those days.

Microistory: with the help of transcripts and interviews stored in Iri RAS, we focus on the fate of individual soldiers and officers, reconstructing their biographies, combat path and life at the front. This allows you to look at the war through the eyes of its immediate participants and to more understand the human dimension of those events. This combination of different methods allows you to create a multifaceted and most objective picture of events.

Particular attention within the framework of the project is paid to the place of death of Konstantin Mikhailovich Samokhin - the village of Arzhanikov, located in the Smolensk region. Employees of the Center for Modern History are collecting materials to establish the circumstances of the tragic battle, in which the tankman-hero died, including work with local residents and search troops.

The purpose of the project: to create the most complete and objective historical reconstruction of the combat path of the 1st Guards Tank Brigade Katukov and the fate of Konstantin Samokhin. The contribution to the preservation of historical memory of the Great Patriotic War and the heroism of Soviet soldiers. Publishing research results in the form of scientific articles, monographs and other materials available to a wide audience.
